The winding road from Vietri continues to the tip of Fuenti, dell’Alboro crosses the valley and it is dominated for a short distance from the countries of Raito and Dawning, then goes almost straight to reach the ancient basis  surrounded by mountain Cetara Falerzio in part of citrus green and lush and partly sparse and selvatic. Last possession and boundary of the ancient Duchy of Amalfi and dioceses of the eastern coastal band was in the stronghold of the Saracens ‘842 and in’ 879 at the time of the siege of Salerno. Cetara has always been a fishing village, and in fact its name comes from Cetaria. Or trap or “Cetari, vendors big fish, tuna precisely.Since 1030 Cetara was indebted to the Bishop of Amalfi, which had one, the “ius piscariae,” the tithe of the fishery. Peter Pappacarbone, third abbot of Cava and nephew of St. Alferio, founder of the abbey cavense, was donated by Roger the port of Vietri in 1086 by William of those sources in 1117 and Cetara in 1120. Later, in 1124,  Simeon bought the port at Punta Licosa and the monastery bought five other ports or bays on the beaches of Cilento ports gave an income of maritime rights to the monastery in virtue of the dues, which was variable depending on membership of the ship Gaetani, Sorrento, Calabria and Sicily, or Genoa, Pisa or Rome. In 1534 the Turks, armed with 22 galleys and headed by renegade tremendous Sinan Pasha, made much of the slave population “took with him 300 inhabitants and slaves of all those who showed resisting boarding were mercilessly slaughtered at the hands of the barbarians” while most of the survivors found refuge in Naples.It is precisely to defend against such attacks that Tower was built vicireale, currently used as a private residence.Ancient tradition that has lasted over time, is that the departure of the fishermen for Algeria and Morocco in March and April, to go fishing for anchovy, to return in the fall after having supplied the markets of Messina, Genoa and Livorno.
